The Carolina Honey Badgers are ready to kick off the 2026 South East Sled Hockey League (SESHL) season as they head to Jacksonville, Florida for the opening tournament on March 29th.

After a strong showing last season, the Honey Badgers enter the new year focused and determined to build momentum early. This first tournament will be a key opportunity to set the tone for the season and begin climbing the standings.

Throughout the weekend, the Honey Badgers will face off against tough competition, including the Charleston Warriors, Orlando Sled Bears, Space Coast Blast, and Queen City Sled Hockey. Each matchup presents a unique challenge, and the team is prepared to compete at a high level from the very first puck drop.

With a mix of experienced veterans and dedicated players continuing to grow their game, the Honey Badgers are looking to showcase their speed, teamwork, and resilience on the ice. The opening tournament is not just about results—it’s about establishing identity, building chemistry, and proving that this team is ready to compete with anyone in the league.

As the Carolina Sled Hockey Team prepares to take the ice for the 2025–2026 season, we proudly celebrate an incredible milestone—our 15th season together. What started as a small group of athletes with a shared love for hockey has grown into a family, a movement, and a testament to what can be accomplished when determination meets community.

Over the past 15 seasons, our team has traveled across the country, representing not just Carolina but the spirit of resilience and inclusion in adaptive sports. From local showcases to national tournaments, every trip has been more than just a competition—it’s been an opportunity to grow, to support one another, and to show the world the strength and skill of athletes who play the game on sleds but with the same fire and passion as anyone on skates.

What truly makes this journey special are the friendships built along the way. On and off the ice, teammates have become lifelong friends, supporting each other through triumphs and challenges, and celebrating victories both big and small. The bonds formed in locker rooms, on long road trips, and in the heat of competition remind us that this team is about far more than hockey—it’s about belonging, teamwork, and family.

Fifteen years is more than just a number. It represents countless practices, thousands of miles traveled, unforgettable goals scored, and most importantly, a legacy of showing others what is possible when barriers are broken down and opportunities are created.

The Carolina Sled Hockey team traveled to Jacksonville, FL this past weekend to compete in the Southeast Sled Hockey League (SESHL) Championship Tournament. The tournament brought together top teams from across the region, including the Charleston Warriors, Queen City (Charlotte) Sled Hockey, Orlando Sled Bears, and Space Coast Blast, all vying for the ultimate title in the Southeast.

At the conclusion of the 2024-2025 SESHL regular season, Carolina finished as the #3 seed, earning them a spot in the semi-finals against the #2 seed Orlando Sled Bears. Despite being down four key players, Carolina came out all guns blazing, taking an early 1-0 lead. However, as the game wore on, fatigue became a major factor, and Carolina ultimately fell 3-1 in a hard-fought battle.

The weekend was a fantastic experience filled with competitive hockey and great moments on and off the ice. Standout performances earned MVP honors for Christian Felkl, who was an absolute beast all weekend, along with Rob Palumbo, Chris Lovelene, and Christian Lafond.

What’s Next?

Carolina Sled Hockey now shifts its focus to the final tournament of the 2024-2025 season—the USA Hockey National Championships in Coral Springs, FL, with the team leaving on April 30th. The team is ready to take on the nation’s best and make their mark on the biggest stage of the year.

Carolina Sled Hockey Battles Through First SESHL Tournament of 2025

Carolina Sled Hockey kicked off the 2025 South East Sled Hockey League (SESHL) season in Charleston, SC, facing off against the Charleston Warriors, Orlando Sled Bears, Queen City Sled Hockey, and the Space Coast Blast. The weekend was full of highs and lows, but the team showed resilience and determination as they fought their way through four hard-fought games.

Game 1 vs. Charleston Warriors
The weekend didn’t start the way Carolina had hoped. In what was arguably their roughest game, the team struggled to find their rhythm, ultimately falling 2-1. Captain Kris Mercer netted the lone goal, but Carolina couldn’t pull together a comeback. If this was a sign of things to come, the weekend was shaping up to be a tough one.

Game 2 vs. Orlando Sled Bears
Whatever wasn’t clicking in Game 1 seemed to completely turn around in Game 2. Was this even the same team? Carolina came out firing and put together a dominant 3-0 victory, with goals from Kris Mercer, Rob Palumbo, and Hunter Parda. Goaltender Odell Lambeth secured his first shutout of the weekend, proving Carolina was far from down and out.

Game 3 vs. Space Coast Blast
Taking on the top-tier Space Coast Blast, Carolina knew they were in for a challenge. While a 5-0 loss isn’t what they wanted, it was actually the closest game Space Coast played all weekend. Considering Space Coast didn’t allow a single goal in the tournament, Carolina walked away knowing they had played their best against a powerhouse opponent.

Game 4 vs. Queen City Sled Hockey
The final game had major implications—Carolina would either secure second place overall or drop into a tie for last place. Earlier in the day, Queen City had stunned Charleston with a 5-2 victory, adding even more pressure to the matchup. The game was a battle, but Carolina rose to the occasion, earning another 3-0 shutout victory with two goals from Chris Baucom and another from Kris Mercer. Goalie Odell Lambeth recorded his second shutout of the weekend, capping off an impressive performance.

With the first tournament in the books, Carolina Sled Hockey now turns its focus to Jacksonville, FL, in March, where they will fight for playoff positioning and push toward the SESHL Championship. Stay tuned as the season heats up!

The Carolina Sled Hockey Team represented the Carolina Hurricanes proudly at this year’s NHL Sled Classic in Dallas, Texas. The team brought grit, skill, and unity, leaving it all on the ice in a weekend packed with action and unforgettable moments.

Game Recap:

• Game 1 vs. Colorado Avalanche: Carolina hit the ground skating, dominating the Avalanche with a powerful 8-0 victory. Every player contributed, marking an impressive start to the tournament.
• Game 2 vs. New York Islanders: Facing a tough Islanders squad, Carolina struggled to gain momentum, ultimately falling 6-0. The loss was a humbling reminder but fueled the team’s determination to bounce back.
• Game 3 vs. Phoenix Coyotes: Carolina returned to the ice with a renewed focus, defeating a strong Coyotes team 5-2 to wrap up the preliminary rounds.

Playoff Push:
In the semifinals, Carolina faced off against the Edmonton Oilers, the team that defeated them in last year’s Classic. This time, Carolina dominated, outshooting Edmonton 27-7 and securing a decisive 4-0 win. With the victory, the team skated into the Championship game with confidence.

Championship Showdown:
In a rematch against the New York Islanders, Carolina fought hard, showing resilience and skill from start to finish. Despite their efforts, the Islanders clinched the victory 6-3. Carolina finished as the 2024 NHL Sled Classic Runner-Up, a significant achievement and a testament to the team’s hard work and dedication.

🏒 Carolina Sled Hockey’s Journey at the 2024 USA Hockey Sled National Championships 🏒

Carolina Sled Hockey recently embarked on an unforgettable journey to the 2024 USA Hockey Sled National Championships held in Westchester, PA. It was a weekend filled with exhilarating matches, fierce competition, and unforgettable memories that will last a lifetime.

Day 1 of the tournament kicked off with an exciting showdown against our SESHL rival, the Orlando Sled Bears. The team started off on the right foot, securing a thrilling 5-2 victory and setting the tone for the rest of the tournament.

However, Day 2 presented a tougher challenge as we faced off against the Nashville Sled Preds. Despite our best efforts, the game didn’t go as planned, and we fell short with a 3-1 loss. Nevertheless, our spirits remained high as we knew there was still more hockey to be played.

Day 3 brought a must-win scenario for Carolina as we squared off against the San Diego Ducks. With determination and grit, the team delivered a stellar performance, clinching a crucial 2-0 victory and keeping our championship hopes alive.

Although fate ultimately did not favor us in the quest for the Championship game, we walked away from the tournament with our heads held high. Every member of the team gave their all on the ice, showcasing incredible skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

As the final buzzer sounded, emotions ran high, especially for #8 Kai Howard, who played his last game in a Carolina Sled Hockey jersey. Kai’s contributions to the team have been immeasurable, and his stellar performance earned him the well-deserved MVP belt. We wish Kai the best of luck in his future endeavors and know that he will continue to shine wherever his hockey journey takes him.

Additionally, #6 Chris Baucom also made his mark on the tournament, securing the MVP belt in game 1 with an impressive hat-trick performance.

Despite the challenges and setbacks, the camaraderie, passion, and determination displayed by the Carolina Sled Hockey team truly exemplified the spirit of the sport. We are immensely proud of our team and grateful for the unwavering support of our family, friends, and community.

CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND

Carolina Sled Hockey is gearing up for the ultimate showdown at the South East Sled Hockey League Championship happening March 22nd – 24th at the Carolina Ice Palace in Charleston, South Carolina!

All seven teams from across the league will meet in Charleston to battle it out in their respective divisions. It’s the culmination of an exciting season as teams vie for the coveted title of divisional champion.

The championship weekend kicks off with the teams completing the regular season to determine their positioning for the playoffs. Then the action heats up with a thrilling semi-final playoff round, leading to the highly anticipated divisional championship games.

This SESHL season is coming to an end so the stakes are higher than ever! It’s sure to be an action-packed weekend filled with intense competition, camaraderie, and a whole lot of fun for players and fans alike.

FIRST SESHL TOURNAMENT IN THE BOOKS

Carolina Sled Hockey wrapped up the first SESHL tournament of the season this past weekend in Orlando by finishing 0-2-2, putting us in 3rd place in the division. Newcomer #13 Chris Lovelene, scored his first league goal and earned our coveted Viking MVP in 2 games! #6 Chris Baucom, and #69 Cody Lambeth, also earned Viking MVPs. Great work all around.
